GENERAL ISSUES
-> When, what and how to move

Question by swcockburn (Susannah)

When will I get my items delivered out of storage?

I need to move a bedroom set, but it will be going straight into storage. Can I get a moving company to pick up the items and do a partial move, bringing it the next time that they are traveling in my direction (moving someone else's stuff)? If so, How do I find information on that?

Yes, that is exactly what will happen: the movers will take it to storage, and when you request it, they will bring it to your new place along with other goods they are moving in your direction.

As far as when they will deliver it: The moving company’s tariff will spell out the delivery window for your goods (the tariff is a moving company's list of charges and rules for moving services).

It doesn’t matter that your goods are coming out of storage and not directly from your home: when you request your goods, the moving companies are required to deliver them within the window specified in the tariff.

I’ve found that the delivery window will vary, from as short as a few days depending on the distance, all the way up to 30 days – make sure you get in writing what your delivery window is.

If you’re not in a hurry to get your items picked up at origin, you might be able to negotiate with the moving company for storage charges.
