Question by tjgreen (tjgreen)
How long does cross country moving take?
How long does a cross-country move usually take? We're moving from Philadelphia, PA to Sacramento, CA in September and plan to use one of the big national companies, like United Van Lines; I'm just trying to get a sense of how long our stuff should take to arrive.

One major vanline has a delivery spread of 7 to 14 days. For moving weights between 8,000 lbs and 12,000 lbs, you can choose which of the four days of the spread that you'd like your shipment delivered on. For moves heavier than that, you can pick any three days.
However, you can't pick any days for shipments under 8000 pounds.
If you're moving outside of the busy summer season, there might be a smaller moving window, and it is usually a couple of days shorter.
You should definately negotiate the moving window with the company you choose; depending on the size of the move, the moving company might prove very amenable to requests.
Good luck with your move,
