Question by sedonarush (Sandy)

How do I find a Phoenix long distance moving company?

Can you get a company to pack you and move you? What is the average cost for that? From Phoenix AZ to Kansas

Yes, moving companies will pack you and move you.

Roughly speaking, the packing costs will be about 25% of your moving charges. So if your move will cost $2,000, packing will be about $500. However, to save money, we generally recommend paying the moving company to pack your breakable stuff, and then you pack the stuff that won't break. That'll put your packing costs around $250.

Because you're moving from Phoenix to Kansas, you're making a long distance move, so your moving costs will be primarily determined by the weight of your move. If you don't know how much you need to move, you can use's moving calculator to fill out an online inventory that will give you a rough estimate of your moving weight. If you don't want to do that, here's a rule of thumb of moving weights:

studio, small 1-brm: 2,500 pounds
1-2 bdrm: 3000lbs to 4500 lbs
2-3 bdrm: 5000lbs to 8000 lbs
3-4 bdrm: 8000 to 12000 lbs
4+ bdrm: 12000 lbs and up

You can then use that move weight to give you a range of estimates for your move, based on the move weight and the distance you need to travel. (Click on 'Full Service Mover Costs' in the calculator.)

However, the best thing is to have a few Phoenix moving companies come to your home to give you a visual estimate and then choose from there.
