Cross country moving, but don't need stuff delivered for a month - what to do?
We are moving from New York City to San Francisco this summer. We don't have a vehicle and we are planning on taking 5 to 10 boxes worth of stuff (a computer, 2 guitars, clothing, books, some kitchen supplies, pictures and other small items). We also will not need our things to arrive for at least a month. What affordable options could you recommend? Would trains be an option for us?

And your move is too small for a New York moving company to bother with, so your best option is probably a mobile storage facility.
With mobile storage, a large container is brought to your home and you pack it. The company then comes to pick it up and stores it, and delivers it to you when you're ready for it. In your case, a month or so.
There are also options where you can travel to the company's facility and load the container there -- it's cheaper and probably easier for you living in New York City; I doubt there are many places in the City where you can have a large storage container parked outside your home while you pack it.
There are a lot of companies that offer this service, including PODs and ABF U-Pack Moving. Check around for different sizes of containers, and pricing.
