Lounge Craft Moving & Storage Corp, USDOT #106318

Safety Of Use Rating: A
(98.19%, RECOMMENDED - see how we calculate SOUR)

From their website www.loungecraftmover.com:
  • This company is an agent for American Red Ball (a major van lines)

  • Additional licensing information:
    * NY State DOT License #2712
    * ICC MC License #112744
    * American Red Ball ICC MC #6992
    * New York City Department of Consumer Affairs Warehouse Number: 767548

  • Established 1951

  • Services offered: local, long distance, storage, commercial, international

  • Packing services: offered. They claim to provide any boxes, packing, crating, or storage needed for your move, however I would recommend calling them before ordering the boxes and compare their prices to SmartPack Solutions.

  • Contact Information: they have two locations:
    * 85 8th Avenue, Sea Cliff, NY 11579 (tel. 516-759-4430)
    * 53-10 46th Street, Maspeth, NY 11378 (tel. 718-784-8585, 718-784-6152, and toll free 1-800-45-MOVER)

  • Members of: BBB, LIMSA and AMSA

From Safersys.org:

Safersys.org reveals the following information:
  • Licensing info: matches what we have

  • 5 trucks

  • The information in the Safersys.org report indicates no problems with their license and insurance.

  • Inspections section shows statistics slightly higher than the average both for vehicle and drivers inspections, but this deviation seems to be acceptable.

From Better Business Bureau:

  • Members of the BBB

  • Original Business Start Date: 1/1/1951 (!)

  • Additional phone numbers: (718) 392-1133, (718) 784-8680

  • Address - same as on their website

  • This company has a satisfactory record with the BBB

  • Number of complaints processed in the last 36 month: 1 (Complaint issue: customer service, resolved)

From other sources:

  • New York State Movers & Warehousemens Association: listed as a member, has valid NYS DOT license (for local moves).

  • Long Island Moving & Storage Association (LIMSA): listed as a member.

  • MovingScam.com: the company is mentioned in connection to two interstate moves, one was mentioned as well performed, however another move received low rating - the lady claimed her items got stolen and the price got up after the items were picked up (See full report here). Basically, they recommend to be cautious about using this company (although do not list it in their Black List).
  • RipoffReport.com: there is one complaint there (http://ripoffreport.com/reports/ripoff204053.htm) dealing with the same bad move that was reported in MovingScam.com. It seems like the customer was very upset and frustrated about that incident and took it to every possible site that deals with bad business practices.

  • Other sources: I found few other places where the company is mentioned, and usually its the same lady who complained on MovingScam and RipoffReport.

Summary:

I believe it is very safe to move with this company. Although they got really bad PR from the lady who complained on them, you should remember that moving companies of that size perform hundreds of long distance moves a year, and since they only have one bad move publicly recorded you can safely assume most of the moves go right. To stay on a safe side follow the guidelines in our Moving Guide regarding closing deals with movers and understanding your estimate, and make sure you insist on having an on-site visual and getting a binding estimate (but that should be done regardless of who you choose for your move), and insure your valuable items on MovingInsurance.com.

Good luck with your move,
