Question by David (David Hall)

Remedying a bad move

We recently had a company move our belongings six miles. From the onset it was the experience from pergatory, beginning with hidden costs, constant harassment by the driver, broken items and an attempt to overcharge us. We sent the company a letter within 48 hours to let them know about the broken items and disatisfaction with the job. This was almost three weeks ago, and we are still getting the run around. What legal recourse do we have to make this company fulfill their obligations according to the form we signed and repeated phone conversations? Thank you, Dave

David,

I am sorry to hear about your bad experience. Unfortunately, we are not allowed to give legal advising, since we are not attorneys. I would strongly recommend you to contact a licensed law specialist, and s/he will be able to help you with any legal course of action that might be available for you.

With that said, I can also recommend you to try some other courses of action that might give you some advantage over those movers: for example you can start reporting them on Better Business Bureau (no matter what they say about this organization I personally used them once for a non-moving related affair and had them help me fight the merchant I had problem with). Other places where you should report this incident are MovingScam.com and RipoffReport.com.

Movers tend to be more lenient to negotiate when they see bad PR  mounting against them.

Hope that helps.

Good luck with your move,
