Moving cross country
Hi!
My best friend and I are moving from Orlando, FL to Southern Cali in September. Neither he nor I have any experience with moving such a long distance and have some concerns. We will need to move both of our cars and a small amount of belongings. We will not be bringing any furniture, just clothing and some small personal belongings. There are so many options out there that we are quite unsure of the most cost effective thing to do. We're thinking of just driving both cars together and possible packing our belongings in our cars, but safety is a concern especially since we will be driving through unknown territory. Some suggestions would be very helpful!

Irene,
First of all, if you really have little amount of stuff that would fit in those two cars of yous, then the idea of a coast to coast road trip does not look so crazy to me. It would certainly be a cheaper option, since you would relocate all you have (including yourself...) in one shot. You will only pay for gaz and motels, so your expenses would be minimal. It could get lonely in a car, but if you actually drive one car and tow another then you could complete your trip faster, because you would be able to drive in shifts. Besides, Texas is not such an unknown territory :)
Other options would include a self moving option, meaning you would rent space in a truck and load/unload yourself, or full service option, meaning movers will pick up and deliver the items for you. You can ship your cars with an auto transport company, and then fly to California. That would cost you of course, although the difference might not be as significant compared to the first option.
Good luck with your move,
