Long distance move from Maine to Seattle on small budget
Hi, We're from a small town in Maine to Seattle and had decided to use a U-Pack service. We have to hire local movers to get to the nearest terminal, which is 2 hours away as they won't bring a trailer to our town and I'm pregnant and can't do much lifting. We thought this would be cheaper than having long distance movers do the entire move, but now I'm not so sure. Adding the travel times for the local movers, it seems our move to Seattle might come to $800 plus $2171 for 10' of space in the trailer to Seattle. Then we have to add on the local move in Seattle. Will this still be cheaper than hiring movers to do the whole trip? Can you suggest any more cost-efficient ways to do this move for us? We've sold most of our furniture except a king-size and twin bed, and have probably an average amount of boxes for a 2-bed apartment. Thanks for your help! Kristin

Kristin,
Usually it is cheaper and safer to use U-Pack services, however in your case it might prove to be both more expensive and much more complicated then just hiring a major van line to pick up your shipment and deliver it straight to your new home in Seattle.
Since you have a very small amount of furniture you might be looking at a minimum weight requirement (with could be something like 1500-2000 lbs), and with the price of $1.1-$1.5 per lb you could be looking at a $1700-$3000 bill for your move, assuming no shuttle service is needed (if yes then add another $300). The good thing about it is that you wouldn't need to do any lifting - its full service, and the trailer will get to your home (unless the movers decide to do the pickup with a smaller truck, which is included in the price anyway).
I would suggest you to start from filling out an online quote request to see what price offers are out there (make sure you avoid brokers - they are trouble... A real mover would have a USDOT license together with MC license).
P.S. Sorry for the late responce, our entire team went on a looong vacation...
Good luck with your move,
