John,

Here are the answers to your questions:

  1. Our ratings are based on publicly available information. We developed a formula that allows us to get a rough estimate (I would say ±5-10% accurate) of the chance to be satisfied with the service of a company in question. You can see my explanation of this formula in this article: How do we calculate Safety Of Use Rating (SOUR) of a moving company.

We primarily use official goverment and other publicly available sources such as SaferSys.org and the BBB, and we give (some) consideration to other consumer sites (e.g. RipoffReport.com, MovingScam.com etc). You are welcome to access the same goverment sites as we do and compare what you find there with what you find here.

The SOUR is good first of all to compare one company to another. It is easier to make a choice between two companies if you know that with one company you have a 57% chance to be satisfied (rated D, or "Not Recommended"), and with another a 91% chance (or AB, "Safe").

  2. If you post a good review for an F company it will not be posted here, just as any other kind of rating for any other company. If you check our site carefully you will see that there are no consumer ratings of the companies listed. The reason is simply because we do not offer this kind of service - our goal is to help moving consumers do the right kind of research.

Basically, each consumer should research the companies they plan to hire, to avoid trouble. Most of the consumers don't know how such research should be conducted, and here is where we come to help. We are aware of the fact that some companies wouldn'd be happy for this information to become public, but our concern is first of all with the customers.

The only kind of responce that we will post in any case is a responce from the representatives of the companies we rate. After all, its their business, and we want to offer them a chance to present a different view of their business to our readers.

I believe this should cover most of your concerns about our service.

Good luck with your move,

Alex Z. @ MovingAnswers.org
