Question by Esther (Esther)

Consumer Report: Transport Van Lines, USDOT #1413580

Any info on Transport Van Lines, DOT#1413580 ICC#535205? (I do understand that they use a cubic feet measurement, but they may work out better for me as I have very heavy items.)

Transport Van Lines, USDOT#1413580

Safety Of Use Rating: F
(0.00%, STAY AWAY - see how we calculate SOUR)

From their website www.transportvanlines.com:

  • This company is independent (not an agent for any major van lines).
  • Licensing information: US DOT #1413580, MC #535205
  • Contact Information:
    phones:
    877-240-0002
    address:
    20404 NE 15th Ct, Miami, FL 33179

  • Members of: AMSA

From Safersys.org:

Safersys.org reveals the following information:
  • Licensing info: US DOT #1413580, MC #535205
  • Trucks: 3.
  • Phones: (305) 651-2285
  • Office location: 20404 NE 15th Ct, Miami, FL 33179
  • The information in the Safersys.org report indicates no problems with their license and insurance.
  • Inspections section shows the following statistics:
    - Driver out-of-service rating: very much above the national average
    - Vehicle out-of-service rating: slightly higher then the national average
From Better Business Bureau:

  • Members of the BBB
  • Original Business Start Date: 6/1/2004 (thats strange - according to DOT they go their license only in November 2005)
  • Number of complaints processed in the last 36 months: 44. Thats a ridiculously high number of complaints for such a young and small company.
    From other sources:

    Summary:

Simply put - STAY AWAY, this mover is nothing but trouble. Adding to this the fact that they quoted you by cubic feet (its simply illegal), they are very young, and have already collected a trace of angry customers. Basically, according to our formula you have practically zero chance to be satisfied with this company.

I would recommend you to do some more shopping around to see what other companies have to offer. You can get few quotes from several long distance movers right here. In any case, never book with a company that did not perform a visual estimate in your house and did not give you a flat price for your move. Also, check this thread to learn How to find a good moving company.

    Good luck with your move,
