Royal Moving & Storage, USDOT#1230294

Safety Of Use Rating: A
(98.56%, RECOMMENDED - see how we calculate SOUR)

I personally know this company, since I worked as a consultant for them in 2004.

First of all, the company was founded by two partners Vilius and Raimondes in 2004. Raimondes already owned another hauling company called Enigma Transportation that had (in 2005) 4 well maintained long distance 53' tractor-trailers. Their business was hauling long distance shipments for NY and CA companies, and as far as reputation goes he was highly popular among NYC companies for extremely fast delivery times (5-6 days coast to coast) and for high quality of work his drivers did during delivery and unloading.

Royal was founded mostly as a supplement to Enigma. The idea was to provide a full line of service to the customers on the NY end of the route - from pickup to delivery. Originally the company was registered in Elizabeth NJ, but after closing a very good deal on storage space and parking for the trailers both companies moved to Brooklyn near the port.

From their website www.movingroyal.com:

They mention on the website that thay are agents of Enigma Transportation, but basically those two companies are owned by the same owners.
  • This company is independent (not an agent for any major van lines).
  • Licensing information: US DOT #1230294, MC #486301
  • Services offered: local, long distance, commercial, storage.
  • Contact Information: phones: (866)-55-ROYAL, address: 827 Anna Street, Elizabeth NJ 07201 (thats their old address, the new one is in Brooklyn)
  • Members of: not specified.

From Safersys.org:

There are two reports in SaferSys.org that we will consider in this investigation - one for Royal and one for Enigma. Since most interstate moves handled by Royal are hauled by Enigma it makes a lot of sense.

Safersys.org reveals the following information:
  • Licensing info:
Royal: US DOT #1230294, MC #486301,
Enigma: US DOT #1161966, MC #461524

  • Trucks: 7.
  • Phones: (718) 369-3395, (718) 369-2212
  • Office location: 56 48th St, Room 14108, Brooklyn, NY 11232
  • The information in the Safersys.org report indicates no problems with their license and insurance.
  • Inspections section shows the following statistics:
    - Driver out-of-service rating: above the national average
    - Vehicle out-of-service rating: higher then the national average
From Better Business Bureau:

  • Not members of the BBB
  • Original Business Start Date: 1/1/2004
  • This summary was listed: "This business recently came to our attention. We are attempting to gather information on the business. Please check back in four to six weeks."
  • Number of complaints processed in the last 36 months: 1. I called the BBB and they told me one complaint was recorded with them, and it was resolved. There is no BBB file for Enigma, and therefore no complaints have been posted with the BBB on this company
    From other sources:

    • New York State Movers & Warehousemens Association: not listed as a member
    • MovingScam.com: there are several threads on MovingScam.com. No real complains were posted, and the only "red flags" they indicated where low prices offered by Royal. I have contributed to the thread explaining why Royal can afford low prices.
    • ConsumerAffairs.com: no mentioning of that company on ConsumerAffairs.com
    • RipOffReport.com: no mentioning of that company on RipOffReport.com
    • Complaints.com: no mentioning of that company on Complaints.com
    • Epinions.com: no mentioning of that company on Epinions.com
    • Other Sources: no other mentioning of that company found elsewhere.

    Summary:

I believe its safe to move with Royal, and would recommend you to hire them for your long distance move, as long as you verify that their interstate truck goes in your direction. Your shipment will be delivered by Enigma Transportation, which owned by the same owners. Their strongest routes as far as I know are NY->CA via the southern states, but they occasionally go to the North-West, as well as to Florida. Basically, as a result of that capacity Royal is a company that can afford very competitive prices for shipments going on the NY->CA route.

To stay on a safe side follow the guidelines in our Moving Guide regarding closing deals with movers and understanding your estimate, and make sure you insist on having an on-site visual and getting a binding estimate (but that should be done regardless of who you choose for your move), and insure your valuable items on MovingInsurance.com.

    Good luck with your move,
