Question by michael.chados (Mike)
RI to FL moving
I just moved from Rhode Island to Florida with my 18-month old and my wife to only be told our shipment will be a week late. We don't have anything. They said that our stuff "weighed" too much and the delay was due to that. What can I do from a legal standpoint?

We are sorry to hear about your recent moving issues. Oftentimes, these situations are the norm when moving long distances. The first thing you have to is look at the contract you signed before moving. Is there any mention of their policy on delays or time needed for extra service days? Moving often doesn't follow a one size fits all model and situations on the road do occur - meaning that maybe your items might have weighed too much and there was, in fact, an issue with the delivery. Traveling such a distance is bound to cause problems related to weather, road work, etc. The best thing to do is call up the company and speak with a supervisor or manager and ask for specifics pertaining to your contract.
Don't worry you will receive your belongings sooner than you think.
Good luck with your move,
