Answer by julie (Julie Owens)
All moving companies should offer you some form of liability insurance for your belongings. In general, most movers provide a basic carrier liability that is limited to 60 cents per pound per article. For items of higher value, you may want to purchase a declared value protection plan that covers your entire shipment. Under this plan, movers assumes liability for the entire shipment at $1.25 per pound times the weight of your items. Another form is full replacement value coverage that is generally $3.50 or $4.00 times the weight of your shipment. There is also a moving insurance plan that covers extraordinary items such as artwork, furs, high-priced electronics, etc. Under this coverage, the lliability for loss or damage to those items will be limited to no more than $100 per pound per article, based upon the actual weight of the article.
We hope this will help you make an informed decision about what form of coverage you will need when moving.
Good luck with your move,

Movers do not sell insurance. They are not licensed to sell it. They can offer. Qluation, which is a limited, depreciated value coverage fir your goods, but that is a conflict of interest. Imagine recovering any money from your movers after they have damaged or lost tour goods. Check out www. MovingInsurance.com. This is an insurance agency that specializes in this market.
