Question by JManfredi (Justin)
Consumer Report: V. Santini (Atlas) USDOT #1213682
So I've done a lot of research and you guys have been an invaluable resource... I have it narrowed down to three who I'd like to get quotes from... But before I do, I was hoping you guys could give me a review on 2 last moving companies -- V. Santini (Atlas) and Berger (Allied). Again, moving from NY to LA, and I promise to post when I finally decide who I am going to go with.
PS - Met the Dahill (Mayflower) Rep today, Chris and he is great, honest, up-front and took his time estimating and looking through my place.

I am happy to hear that our site is so useful to you.
I will use that thread to rate V. Santini and will open another one for Berger under your name. We would appreciate it if you could email us in the end telling who you chose for the move and how everything went. As long as you are in the process of moving you could always rely on us answering any of your questions.
Here is the review of V. Santini in Mount Vernon:
V. Santini Inc., USDOT# 1213682
Safety Of Use Rating: AA
(99.30%, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - see how we calculate SOUR)
From their website www.vsantini.com:
- This company is an agent for Atlas Van Lines.
- Licensing information: US DOT #125550 (this is Atlas interstate license number), NYDOT: #3294
- Services offered: moving, storage, office relocation, business records storage.
- Contact Information:
- phones: 800-899-0200,
- addresses: 27 South Sixth Avenue, Mount Vernon, NY 10550, and 2314 Jerome Avenue, New York 10468
- Members of: not specified
From Safersys.org:
Safersys.org reveals the following information:
- Licensing info: US DOT #1213682
- Trucks: 13.
- Phones: (914) 668-8000
- Office location: 27 South Sixth Avenue, Mount Vernon, NY 10550
- There seems to be some problem with their license, however since you are moving to a different state they operate under Atlas license, so it should not be a problem. I could not locate their insurance file, but again, they are agents of Atlas.
- Inspections section shows the following statistics:
- Driver out-of-service rating: above the national average
- Vehicle out-of-service rating: below the national average
They dont have a carrier safety rating.
- Not members of the BBB
- Original Business Start Date: 1/1/1923 (!!!)
- This summary was listed under Customer Experience: "Based on BBB files, this business has a satisfactory record with the Bureau"
- Number of complaints processed in the last 36 months: none.
- New York State Movers & Warehousemens Association: listed as a member
- MovingScam.com: V. Santini has good reviews on MovingScam.com (5 reviews). No complaints or bad reviews found.
- ConsumerAffairs.com: no mentioning of that company on ConsumerAffairs.com
- RipOffReport.com: found 3 reports reporting late delivery, rude behavior and other issues: http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/ripoff228738.htm
http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/ripoff80954.htm
http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/ripoff69430.htm
- Complaints.com: no mentioning of that company on Complaints.com
- Epinions.com: no mentioning of that company on Epinions.com
- Other Sources: no other mentioning of that company found elsewhere.
Summary:
I would recommend using this company. The only red flags that we have on them is their licensing and insurance issues in SaferSys.org (which probably has good explanation if you ask their sales reps), and few complaints on Ripoff Report.
Other then that - no complaints with BBB and praises on MovingScam.com, long time in business, agents of a major van lines, and a big fleet of trucks - a very good choice if you ask me (and if you are ready to pay a premium price, I suspect).
To stay on a safe side follow the guidelines in our Moving Guide regarding closing deals with movers and understanding your estimate, and make sure you insist on having an on-site visual and getting a binding estimate (but that should be done regardless of who you choose for your move), and insure your valuable items on MovingInsurance.com.
Good luck with your move,
