As I mentioned in this thread, the best type of arrangement for the consumer would be to pay the whole sum with credit card after the items were delivered.

Credit cards give you as a consumer an additional level of protection, and it is also easier then paying with cash or cashiers check.

In the previous thread I only mentioned that you shouldn't pay the whole sum with credit card up front, but this is true about any payment type. In fact, if you still choose to pay everything up front (maybe the mover offered you a discount...) then try to avoid giving anyone cash and pay wth credit card.

The main reasons why I always recommend to try to avoid any prepayments for your move (including deposits) are these:
  1. After paying the movers up front you could loose that money if the movers just don't show up. It could happen if you booked with a company that turned out to be a bunch of scammers. Usually it shouldn't happen to you if you do your homework and check the consumer record of the mover before you book your move.

  2. You could book with a company pretending to be a mover, but in fact is either a broker or a mover that also brokers out jobs. In that case you might end up without a mover at all. To prevent those situations you should not pay any deposits (brokers never book jobs if they cannot collect the deposit).

Good luck with your move,
