Moving License in Illinois
How do I go about getting a moving license in the state of Illinois?
1. Fill out an application through the Illinois Commerce Commission (ILCC) -there is also a $900 fee.
2. Take an open book test pertaining to the rules and regulation of moving.
3. Once you pass, an official notice must be placed in the state paper with the date of your assigned hearing.
4. Take part in a hearing (date established by ILCC), which involves appearing for a judge to determine that you are “fit, willing and
able” to be a mover.
5. Take a compliance class, which are held quarterly and only eligible to prospective movers after the $900 application fee has been paid.
6. If all of these steps go well, you will be awarded a temporary license (permanent licenses may take up to nine months to process).
7. You will also need to provide your tariff rate, proof of cargo and insurance documentation before you begin operating as a mover.
8. Prior to receiving a permanent license, you will be audited by the ILCC to check that you are following rules and regulations, paperwork is filled properly as well as review any complaints from customers. Once the audit is approved, you will be awarded a permanent moving license.
