A Moving Company or a U-Haul

I am moving from NYC to Fort Worth, Texas and trying to decide whether renting a truck and driving myself would be cheaper than finding a moving company. I am in a small one bedroom apartment.

First off, congratulations on your big move! This exiting time if often correlated with stressful decisions such as yours. Generally, when people have smaller moves they tend to go the self service route such as with a U-Haul. This option is generally cheaper than a hiring a full-service moving company, but will require more work on your part such as all of the packing, loading, driving and unloading, as well as dealing with anything that may come up. Additionally, just because it is cheaper, doesn't mean it is cheap. Using a U-Haul will still cost you for gas and insurance, and again you are the sole party responsible for anything that may go haywire on moving day. For a smaller move, this option may be more of a personal option. Factor in the time it will take you to move and the work you will put and compare this to moving quotes from three local moving companies. You'll be able to make your decision very soon and quickly check something off your ever-growing moving day to-do list.

Best of luck!
