Moving Just Clothes
My daughter is leaving for college across the country
at the end of the summer. All she really needs to move are clothes, books and
some other small items. Hiring movers or even getting a pod seems to be too
much. However, it's more than she would be able to bring on her flight. If she
were bringing a car, it would all fit, but she won't be, so we've got to find
something else. What would be the best option for us? Should we just pack up
boxes and ship via UPS?
Hello,
The best (and least) expensive way to ship these items would be by UPS, or a
similar carrier. The reason that a moving company would not be the best
option is that most of them have a minimum weight filter of 1,000 pounds.
Meaning, you would have to pay for a 1,000 pound move, even though the total weight
of your move would not come close. Before you ship her items, be sure to check
with UPS or another carrier for their maximum weight and size requirements per
box. This will enable you to pack accordingly, as well as avoid the possible rejection
of any cartons. I would also suggest that you purchase insurance for each
carton you decide to ship.
Have a great move!
