Helen,

There are many factors that should be taken
into account when answering this question.

Here are some examples:

  1. Where (approximately) you need the storage to be located?
  2. When do you plan to move your belongings into the unit, and for how long?
  3. Are you looking for a climate controlled storage unit or not?
  4. Do you want an actual room with 24/7 access, or you don't mind to store your items in a 2nd level stacked locker (with ladder access)?

For example, when I researched the market in Brooklyn, NY I got quotes ranging from $348 (for 12'x20' 2nd level stacked locker with ladder access) and to $665 (for a 12'x19' with easy access).

When you research prices of storage units I can recommend using our storage quotes form and have representatives of storage facilities call you with offers. They often have many promotions going on and special rates you can take advantage of.

At the same time I would also recommend you to visit the location of the storage facility before you sign a deal to inspect the premises and see who you are going to entrust your belongings with. Read our Moving Guide ->Storage Tips to learn how to store your items the right way.

Good luck with your move,
