Cross country moving, but don't need stuff delivered for a month - what to do?

We are moving from New York City to San Francisco this summer. We don't have a vehicle and we are planning on taking 5 to 10 boxes worth of stuff (a computer, 2 guitars, clothing, books, some kitchen supplies, pictures and other small items). We also will not need our things to arrive for at least a month. What affordable options could you recommend? Would trains be an option for us?
